Surgery lasts roughly 2 hours per arch, and your new teeth will be screwed in the next day.

Within a 24 hour period you’ll have brand new teeth, a beautiful smile, and throughout the healing phase you’ll be able to eat pretty much anything you want, as long as you can cut it with a fork.

The day of your surgery our Nurse Anesthetist, Irene, will administer your IV sedation in one of our private surgery suites here at the office. Dr. Barrett Tolley, our board certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon, will then begin surgically extracting any remaining teeth, and precisely place each implant using our state-of-the-art technology. 

Dr. Tolley is an amazing, extremely talented surgeon, and was hand-picked by Dr. Spencer because he wanted to provide the best for our patients. Dr. Tolley has his own dental practice in Tallahassee, and drives into Jacksonville every week just to perform surgery on our patients.

When you return the next day we’ll screw in your set of temporary teeth which you’ll wear until your gums heal, and the implants have properly fused with your jawbone, typically 3-4 months. Our temporaries are not just a set of regular dentures. They’re a quality set of nanoceramic teeth, permanently screwed in, aesthetically and functionally the same as your zirconia finals.

You’ll return for your first follow-up appointment a week later, then once a month after that to make sure everything is healing properly, and make any necessary adjustments.

Some offices choose to skip the temporary process entirely, and place your zirconia finals immediately following surgery. This is typically presented as a benefit to the patient, but can actually lead to a higher rate of complications, discomfort, pain, a misaligned or uneven bite, and eventually implant failure. 

After surgery your gums are inflamed and swollen. As they heal and the swelling goes down, gaps will form between your gumline and your new prosthesis. At your follow-up appointments we tighten the screws to remove those gaps, and make any adjustments needed so your bite is perfect. The nanoceramic temporary material is soft enough for adjustments, zirconia is not.

Compared to the temporaries, zirconia is much heavier, and is also too hard to make adjustments to. Without adjustments your bite will be uneven, and the added weight can cause the implants to not fuse properly to the jawbone, increasing the rate of failure over time.

My dad has always had a “measure twice, cut once” kind of attitude, and believes that if you’re going to do something, you do it the right way, and make sure you get it right the first time. So we use the temporaries because we don’t believe in cutting corners, and want to ensure your new teeth last the rest of your life.

After 3-4 months, once everything is healed and all adjustments have been made, we use a model of your temporaries to create your custom full zirconia final restorations, so we know the bite is perfect. But your zirconia teeth aren’t simply made by a machine—our team has received advanced training from some of the industry’s leading experts in zirconia characterization.

In our in-house lab, our team hand-finishes every zirconia arch individually by carefully applying custom ceramic stains to each tooth with fine brushes to recreate the subtle colors, shading, and natural variations found in real teeth before finally glazing and polishing them to a lifelike finish. This artistic process helps ensure your new smile looks like natural teeth – not a single solid block of white zirconia.

The result is a truly custom smile that’s uniquely yours and crafted to look as natural as possible.

These are your final, permanent teeth, that you should have for the rest of your life, and are protected by our lifetime warranty which covers both the zirconia teeth AND the implants, something extremely hard to find anywhere else.

Most offices offer a 5-year warranty, some offer a lifetime warranty on the zirconia teeth, like Clear Choice or Done In One, but we are the only office I know of that includes the implants, abutments, and labor as well, which is a HUGE value.

In order to keep your warranty valid, you will need to wear your custom-made night guard every night to prevent wear and protect your investment, and come in at least once a year to have everything removed and cleaned.
